Not sure if your NEW swimmer is ready for swim team? In order to be part of the swim team, the swimmer must be able to pass a swim test. Swim tests are done during the first two weeks of practice. See practice schedule for more information.

A swimmer must be able to:

Jump feet first into the pool in either the shallow end or deep end and put their head under the water.

Swim (without a flotation device or other assistance) the pool length (25 meters) using either a front or back stroke. 

Ages 11-18 can only stop one time (stop, hang on lane line, etc.) during their assessment. More than one stop will result in the swimmer not passing the swim assessment.

Ages 10 and under can only stop two times (stop, hang on lane line, coach assistance, etc.) during their assessment. More than two stops will result in the swimmer not passing the swim assessment.

Swimmers may attempt the swim assessment a total of 3 times before June 6. After June 6 there will be no more assessments.

The goal is for the swimmer to be able to swim the full length of the pool with no stops within the following 2-3 weeks of practice and to participate in a minimum of two swim meets during the season.

Any swimmer who does not have the skills needed to participate in swim team will be recommended to enroll in swim lessons and try again next year.

Swim team fees cover registration, insurance and a cap.  It is very important to us that we compensate our coaches fairly.  Registration fees and home concession stands goes toward paying our coaches.  We would like to avoid fundraising in terms of asking the team members to sell items or ask for donations from outside of the team.  Fun fundraising opportunities may arise to boost our income to cover various expenses that occur during the swim season.

Purchasing a team suit is optional, but not required. The purpose in having a team suit is so Ashby Swim Team is recognized as a team unit at meets.  Any black suit is acceptable.
